Following the devastating earthquake in 2015, the Light of Buddhadharma Foundation International used our extensive network of monastic contacts within the country to deliver aid quickly to those most in need. As other relief aid sat at Kathmandu airport tied up in bureaucratic red tape, our relationships with monastics in Nepal allowed us to act swiftly in providing food and shelter throughout the disaster area, and to do so with a very low overhead and in a focused and targeted manner. It was this action that made us realize we could expand this model in providing aid and support for future disaster situations. With relationships with hundreds of monasteries over all of South East Asia, India and the Himalayan countries, LBDFI has now created a directive to help support Buddhist monasteries during times of disasters with respect to medical aid.
