The International Tipiṭaka Chanting Ceremony & Commemorative Walk in Bodhgaya and Rajgir
Reaffirming India’s unparalleled position as the Motherland of Buddha Dhamma and the global centre of Buddhist heritage, the country will once again host the largest international Buddhist event in Southeast Asia and India the International Tipiṭaka Chanting Ceremony in Bodhgaya, Bihar, along with the Commemorative Walk retracing the Buddha’s footsteps from Jethian Valley to the sacred bamboo grove of Venuvana in Rajgir.
The 12-day spiritual gathering at Bodhgaya—the hallowed Seat of Enlightenment will be organised by the International Buddhist Confederation (IBC) in partnership with the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, and the Light of Buddha Dharma Foundation International (LBDFI), USA. The event continues to embody India’s commitment to preserving and promoting its timeless Buddhist heritage before the world.
This year’s festival is supported by several Buddhist organisations of India, led by the International Tipiṭaka Chanting Committee (ITCC).
More than 20,000 Sangha members and lay devotees are expected to participate, including distinguished monastic delegations

The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved to confer the status of Classical Language to Marathi, Pali, Prakrit, Assamese and Bengali languages. The Classical Languages serve as a custodian of Bharat’s profound and ancient cultural heritage, embodying the essence of each community’s historical and cultural milestone.
20th International Tipitaka Chanting Ceremony to begin in Bodhgaya
In a landmark moment for Buddhist heritage and inter-community collaboration, seventeen Buddhist organizations from across India have come together for the first time to collectively organize the 20th Annual International Tipitaka Chanting Ceremony at the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodhgaya, Bihar. The event, held annually since 2006, will take place from 2–13 December 2025, followed by the traditional commemorative walk from Jethian Valley to the bamboo grove of Venuvana in Rajgir.
