Lucknow

Our History

Capital city of Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow has become an important center of Buddhist activity in India with the construction of the Ambedkar memorial park in memory of the great Bodhisattva Dr Ambedkar.  Sponsored by the Government of Uttar Pradesh, LBDFI organized the 4th International Dhammapada recitation there on November 20-21 2023.

Since 2016 increasing numbers of lay Indian devotees have attended the International Tipitaka chanting ceremony in Bodhgaya. They requested that a sister chanting ceremony be instituted in Lucknow, and the ITCC assented to this request in 2019. 150 monks and 300 lay followers participated, chanting the Dharmapada for a single day event. Given the success of this event, a request has now been made for this to become an annual event.
