Reviving the Diamond Triangle of Odisha
Uniting the Three Yānas at Lalitgiri, Udayagiri, and Ratnagiri
The Diamond Triangle of Odisha home to the ancient Buddhist sites of Lalitgiri, Udayagiri, and Ratnagiri holds deep spiritual and historical significance. These sacred locations, once thriving monastic universities, are now being reawakened as places of pilgrimage, learning, and practice for followers of all three yānas: Theravada, Mahāyāna, and Vajrayāna.
In January 2025, we hosted the 1st Guru Padmasambhava Ceremony at these sites, bringing together over 1,500 participants, including monks, nuns, and lay devotees from across India, especially from Sikkim and the Himalayan regions. It was a powerful moment of reconnection with the sacred heritage of this land.
We are now preparing for the Second Guru Padmasambhava Program, which will be held from January 11–16, 2026. This multi-day event will feature:
Daily prayers and teachings based on Guru Padmasambhava
Cultural and musical performances representing Odisha’s rich Buddhist heritage
Mini conferences on historical legacy of Guru Padmasambhava
A pilgrimage walk (yatra) through all three sites
In partnership with the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Tourism, this initiative is part of a larger effort to revitalize the sacred zones of Odisha and forge a living connection with Bodhgaya, the site of the Buddha’s enlightenment. Together, these efforts aim to restore India’s Buddhist roots and open new pathways for spiritual tourism, cultural exchange, and international harmony.
